How has your 2014 been so far? What are the challenges that have presented themselves to you? How have you overcome them? How are you continuing to manage them? Whenever I start looking back on a year to date, or a period of time, I can’t help but find myself always asking these questions. Never would I have thought that over such a short period of time that I could experience such a broad range of emotions and life changing events. Life truly can surprise you if you allow it to. The one big take away for me over this past six months is the preparedness to just be ‘present’ within any moment you find yourself in. Life moves so rapidly, and at times our minds can just run away from us, dwelling on the past, anxious about the future, all these moments are out of our control, all we can control is the moment we are in. So if you feel your mind racing away from you take a moment to just ‘be’ and slow things down. This has allowed me to enjoy each moment more (on a day-to-day basis), has given me a greater objective perspective of my own life and the subsequent decisions I make, and finally, has allowed me to let go of the things that have happened in the past that are now out of my control. It is extremely liberating when you stop worrying and just focus on the people and the environment that you find yourself in at any given moment.
The halfway point of the year offers a great opportunity to check in with those goals that you set for yourself at the start of the year. Personally, I acknowledge the goals ticked off and achieved, reassess those still remaining and refocus my energies moving forward, to what I want to achieve. I Choose Awesome consumes me with passion for what I do on a daily basis and asks me, to ask more of myself each day. Personal development has been a big focus for me this year and I have just finished my certificate 4 in Life Coaching, whilst I continue to develop our Leadership Program and nurture those presentation skills. As much of a burden as it can be scheduling in times to practice and apply these skills, I find that once I’ve practiced them, they reaffirm what it is I want to do and where it is I’m headed. What is the thing that consumes you with purpose and passion? These are the things that we need to hold on to and invest a portion of our time and energy into as frequently as possible. Call yourself to action, if you want things to change in your life then you can’t just think of the changes in your head, you must follow through with them by taking action. Break them down, work backwards from where you to be until you can decipher what action you can take here and now, today, to help move you in your desired direction.
So stuff the naysayers. We only get one life to live and it is entirely up to each and every single one of us as to what we choose to make of it. Nothing in this life is impossible unless we decide it to be so. Each day brings with it opportunity in abundance and the best part is, that anyone of us has the ability to take advantage of it. It’s the things that we see that others don’t that sets us apart from those who simply dream and those of us who achieve. Nothing comes easily, because if it did, then everyone would be doing it. Like anything of value, it takes time energy and dedication to acquire anything of substance, the harder you work the easier it becomes and the more opportunities you begin to see. No one can do the hard yards for us though, see its that hard yards that defines us, its the hard yards that defines us as individuals and seasons us with the character required to amount a qualative existence and to make a difference.
The world is our playground with a wealth of potential, those of us that see it know this, and know that in order to make a difference we must stand for something, anything, but something that we hold close to our hearts and something that we are prepared to risk greatly for. You see the greater the risk, the greater the gain, yet standing up when everyone remains sitting down is the true test of leadership. A preparedness to do what others simply wouldn’t galvanises our purpose and reinforces everything we know to be true deep within. Pushing the boundaries, asking the questions, choosing to be heard instead of remaining silent, isn’t something that comes naturally, but something we choose to do. See life is all about choices and we understand this. Choose to ask more of yourself, choose to settle for what you have, choose to sell yourself short, the choice, the decision, remains entirely up to each and every single one us. If you want something badly enough you’ll do it, if you don’t, you won’t, its simple.
With so much to be done, with so little time we have in the grander scheme of things, each day brings with it unlimited possibilities and the chance for us to leave our make, to make a difference, to elevate the quality of living of humanity and to make each moment count. Consistency is our strongest alley and it is fuelled by our passion, our unwavering passion to make a difference. The quality of our tomorrow is defined by the quality of our actions today, right here right now, this very moment. Be it 12 days, 12 weeks, 12 months or 12 years time, it doesn’t matter, we are a summary of our actions from this point onwards and nothing else. The experiences we share with those around us, the impact our every action has on the people around us has a phenomenal reach, far greater than we may ever thought imaginable. The reality is, it doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, you in your own right have the capacity to inspire those around you and it all starts with your very actions.
The only way to lead is by example, we step forward with conviction, we stand by each and every one of our decisions and we make them without hesitation. So casting fear aside, holding on to what we know is true, we step forward with conviction, unwavering, unyielding, relentless.
Be the difference you want to see in the world.
